Stage 18 of the 2019 Tour was the race's queen stage, crossing the Col de Vars, Col d'Izoard, and Col du Galibier in succession, and Alaphilippe defended his overall lead that day despite being dropped by his rivals near the summit. The image captures the intensity of one of his 14 days spent in yellow that year, a French run at the general classification that captivated fans lining the roadside before Egan Bernal eventually took the lead in the Alps.
