"PANTANI" is scrawled in white chalk across the tarmac, framed by a hand-drawn bicycle and a crowd of fans' legs and feet gathered at the roadside. The tribute honors Marco Pantani, one of cycling's most beloved and tragic climbers, whose memory fans keep alive by marking his name on the very roads he once conquered. This image is part of Tino Pohlmann's _arena, a tribute to the beauty and grandeur of the Tour de France through its two essential collaborators: the rugged, wild mountains of France, and the hundreds of thousands of fans who transform that natural landscape into the world's largest open-air sporting venue.
